Our Mission
The Crypto Asset Lab (CAL) is a joint research initiative by the Department of Business and Law of Università di Milano-Bicocca and the Digital Gold Institute

Our focus is on cryptoassets as fintech innovation, investment opportunity, and regulatory challenge, with special regard for their disruptive role in the future of money and finance. Also, we pay attention to the innovations in cryptography and blockchain technology, given their relevance for privacy, security, and other applications (e.g. timestamping).
We stand at the cusp of a groundbreaking period in finance. It is crucial for all stakeholders, including crypto-native entities, traditional financial institutions, academia across disciplines, and regulators, to understand the past, present, and future of this dynamic landscape.CAL aims to facilitate this understanding by fostering dialogue across sectors and disciplines. Its multidisciplinary approach is essential to navigating the complex evolution of DeFi, identifying emerging threats, and embracing upcoming innovations. We welcome diverse perspectives that contribute to shaping the future of financial ecosystems, envisaging an accelerating convergence between traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralised finance (DeFi). This shift is not merely a technological advancement but a fundamental redefinition of how value is issued, transferred, and settled across both institutional and decentralized networks.
